Kansas has a 6.3% state sales tax as of July 1, 2010. More than 700 jurisdictions within the state (cities, counties, and special districts) may impose additional taxes. For example, in the capital city of Topeka, retailers must collect 6.3% for the state, 1.15% for Shawnee County, and 1% for the city, for a total rate of 8.45%. As of July 2010, the highest rate was 8.85%, in the Douglas County.
